A first look at percentages

“Per cent” means “per hundred”, so 25% is 25 out of every 100. In Grade 4, children meet the friendly percentages first — 10%, 25%, 50% and 100% — because they line up with halves, quarters and tenths they already know. To find a percent of a number, a simple way is to find 10% (divide by 10) and build up from there. These worksheets keep every answer a whole number.

25% of 80 → ?

  1. 25% means 25 out of every 100 — the same as one quarter.
  2. Find one quarter of 80: 80 ÷ 4 = 20.
  3. Answer: 20.

How to use these worksheets
