Estimating first and checking by addition are emphasised so answers are reliable. These worksheets build from three-digit review to full four-digit problems.

- Ones: 4 − 6 needs a borrow, but tens & hundreds are 0 — regroup from the thousands down.
- Work across the zeros: carefully borrow so ones become 14 − 6 = 8.
- Continue each column: tens 9 − 7 = 2, hundreds 9 − 3 = 6, thousands 4 − 2 = 2.
- Answer: 2,628.
