Converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time
Once children can read AM/PM time, the next step is converting it to the 24-hour clock and back. The rule is simple: for PM times (except 12 PM) add 12 to the hour, so 3:30 PM becomes 15:30; going the other way, subtract 12 from hours of 13 or more. These worksheets mix both directions so the skill really sticks.
9:05 PM → ?
- It’s PM, so add 12 to the hour: 9 + 12 = 21.
- Keep the minutes the same: 05.
- Answer: 21:05.
