Counting in Grade 1
First grade extends counting well past 100 and introduces skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. Skip counting builds the rhythm children will later recognise as the times tables, and it strengthens their sense of how numbers are structured. These worksheets show a pattern with the next number missing.
10, 20, 30, ___
- Find the step: each number is 10 more than the last.
- Add ten to 30: 30 + 10 = 40.
- Answer: 40.
How to use these worksheets
- Start on Easy, then try skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.
- Say the pattern out loud — the rhythm makes it stick.
- Keep the answer key (page 2) for quick checking.
- Tick Show answers to model finding the step.
