Integer arithmetic extends addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to negative whole numbers as well as positive ones and zero. These worksheets ask the learner to compute with signed numbers using a number line or the sign rules, a foundation for coordinates, algebra and real contexts like temperature and debt.

For example, −3 + 5 means starting at −3 and moving five to the right, landing on 2; −3 − 5 moves five to the left to −8. For products, a negative times a negative is positive, so (−3)(−4) = 12. A common mistake is treating subtraction of a negative as ordinary subtraction instead of adding, so 4 − (−2) is wrongly made 2 rather than 6. Tip: rewrite "minus a negative" as "plus a positive" and use a number line to keep the direction of each move clear.
