Addition in Grade 3
Third grade moves into adding numbers up to 1,000, lining them up in columns and regrouping across ones, tens and hundreds. The place-value idea from earlier grades now does real work: carrying a ten, then carrying a hundred. These worksheets scale from two-digit warm-ups up to full three-digit sums.
356 + 278 = ?
- Ones: 6 + 8 = 14 — write 4, carry 1 ten.
- Tens: 5 + 7 = 12, plus the carried 1 = 13 — write 3, carry 1 hundred.
- Hundreds: 3 + 2 = 5, plus the carried 1 = 6.
- Answer: 634.
